Be on the Lookout for Top Talent

High-quality employees are all around us. They might serve our meals at restaurants, bag our groceries or help us find items at the local hardware store. When you encounter someone providing great customer service, invite them to work for your chain.

The No. 1 motivator in the entire world is recognition, Kleiman noted. He recommends giving c-store managers business cards. Not only does it make the manager feel important, but it can be a key tool for recruiting top talent. Businesses can also make recruitment cards specifically for this purpose.

“When you or your manager are out and you experience great customer service, this is a great time to give someone the card and say, ‘Wow, I appreciate the great service. We’re looking for people just like you to be part of our team. If you’d like to learn more, call me for a confidential interview,’” Kleiman noted. “What did you just give that person who gave you great service? Recognition.”

There’s a good chance they might not be getting the recognition they deserve in their current role, and you’ve just offered them something they’ve been missing.
