Director of Retail Operations | Tobacco Central / Low Bob’s Group
Jerry is currently the Director of Retail Operations at Tobacco Central / Low Bob’s Group located in South Bend, Indiana. He oversees 54 retail tobacco and convenience stores across the state of Indiana.
After receiving his degree in Marketing from Western Michigan University, Jerry worked for Meijer, Inc. in Michigan. He worked as Loss prevention manager for several years and was promoted to Hard Lines manager.
Jerry had always wanted to be an entrepreneur and had an interest in the convenience store industry. As his first endeavor, he franchised 2 convenience stores and successfully ran them for 5 years. Because of his desire to market and sell, Jerry became a successful independent convenience store owner, growing Smith’s Food Mart from the ground up. He was one of the first in the area to develop a coffee program, a full line deli, ATM, and much more. He was one of the top convenience store operators in Northern Indiana. He developed his stores in Osceola, Mishawaka, and Nappanee. After 27 years of daily, 24-hour service to the community, he took the opportunity to sell his stores.
In 2007, Jerry signed on board with Tobacco Central and took on the task of being the administrator over 54 retail stores. Jerry stays current on local tobacco, State and National level legislation and keeps up with the trends on legislation. He actively works on State/local efforts to be a voice in the tobacco Industry.
In the community, Jerry has been a loyal Lion’s Club member for 35 years. He has sponsored little league teams, local band scholarships, car washes, and many more events which benefit the local community. He was on the front lines after Hurricane Katrina as a missionary providing meals and clean up for those affected as well as those serving.
Jerry’s passion is business and he keeps current on all trends, products, and legal happenings in the convenience store/tobacco industry.
