President | HJB Convenience
Raymond Huff is the president of HJB Convenience Corp., which operates a chain of 19 specialty convenience stores in the central business districts of Denver, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Detroit and Hawaii. The stores operate as Russell’s Convenience and Russell’s Xpress. Prior to acquiring HJB, Huff was a regional manager for Marriott Corp., where he learned the hospitality business and the standards that his chain currently follows every day.
The first Russell’s Convenience store opened in Hawaii in 1978. In 2015, Russell’s Convenience opened its first unmanned store in Denver under the Russell’s Xpress banner. The second Xpress site opened in 2018 in the largest building in Denver and they both continue to operate successfully today.
To accomplish the task of operating unmanned stores, HJB Convenience called upon the software company Tenderfoot Software, also owned by Raymond, to create loyalty, point-of-sales and door-access systems to enable an unmanned store to operate seamlessly.
These accomplishments were recognized by the convenience industry naming him one of the top 20 Futurists for 2019 in the convenience store market. His technology expertise has earned him the moniker “The Self-Made Tech Guru.”
Raymond now shares the dos and don’ts of unmanned stores with the convenience industry. Currently living in Denver, married with two kids (now adults), Raymond enjoys traveling the world four months a year for the past 3 years.
