John Peyton is President of GATE Petroleum Company, a large privately-held company in Florida, where he oversees the company’s operations in retail, real estate development, hospitality and construction materials. Peyton began his most recent role at GATE in January 2012 after serving two consecutive terms as Mayor of Jacksonville, Florida.
Peyton is an alumnus of Mercer University, Harvard Business School Executive Education Program as well as Leadership Jacksonville and Leadership Florida. While at Mercer, John served as SGA president and president (High Alpha) of Lambda Chi Alpha social fraternity. He cites recruiting Mark McElreath (known as Fletcher in college) to Lambda Chi in 1983 as a point of pride during college years. He gained a lifelong friend and witnessed the emergence of an amazing leader. Fletcher followed Peyton as High Alpha at Zeta Omega chapter and later became Grand High Alpha of the national organization.
John currently serves as the Chair of the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce.
Peyton is married to Dr. Kathryn Pearson Peyton. They are the proud parents of two boys, Connor and Kent.
